Sharon Lewis

Sharon Lewis was appointed Commissioner of the Administration on Developmental Disabilities in March 2010, having worked in disability policy at local, state, and national levels for over a decade. She originally came to Washington, D.C. to serve as a Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation Public Policy Fellow, working for the Senate HELP Subcommittee on Children and Families. In 2007, she joined the House Education & Labor Committee staff as Senior Disability Policy Advisor, where she advised members of the Committee on disability concerns related to education, employment and healthcare.

At the state level, Commissioner Lewis worked on public policy for the Oregon Developmental Disabilities Coalition and for The Arc. Prior to working in public policy, Ms. Lewis also owned and operated a small business for several years.

Commissioner Lewis is a parent to three daughters, including one with disability. She is a native of Michigan and a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis.
