Montgomery Restaurant Pays $16,500 to Settle EEOC Pregnancy Discrimination Suit

Lane Hotel Management Company, which formerly owned and operated the Capitol Inn and The Four Seasons Restaurant in Montgomery, will pay $16,500 and furnish other relief to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that a salad bar prep worker at the Four Seasons Restaurant was terminated because of her pregnancy.

Saks Fifth Avenue Settles EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

HOUSTON — Saks Fifth Avenue, the high-end retailer based in New York City, has agreed to pay $170,000 to settle a disability discrimination suit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Oppor­tunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The settlement resolves the charge of a former Saks makeup artist, Marlene Babin, who claimed that Saks fired her from its New Orleans store because of her disability, ulcerative colitis.

Ralph Schomp Automotive Agrees To Pay $1.5 Million To Settle EEOC Sex And Age Bias Lawsuit

DENVER – Arapahoe Motors, Inc., doing business as Ralph Schomp Automotive (Ralph Schomp), has agreed to pay $1.505 million and furnish other relief to settle a sex and age discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today. Ralph Schomp, based in Littleton, is one of the highest volume BMW, Honda, and Mini dealers in Colorado.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has settled a disability discrimination lawsuit against Phoenix-area property management firms Riverstone Residential, SW, LLC and Realty Management, charging the companies with failing to accommodate and then firing employee Shaun Oldridge because he suffers from bipolar disorder.

Vanguard Group to Pay $300,000 to Settle EEOC Suit Alleging Racial Bias in Hiring

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced a $300,000 litigation settlement with Vanguard Group, Inc. on behalf of a qualified black applicant who the federal agency says was refused hire for a financial planning manager position because of her race, despite substantial work experience.  Malvern, Pa.-based Vanguard Group, one of the world's largest investment management companies, will also furnish significant equitable relief as part of the EEOC consent decree resolving the case.

Whirlpool Corp. To Pay Over $1 Million For Harassing Black Female Worker, Judge Rules In Bench Tria

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced a final court judgment of $1,073,261 against Whirlpool Corporation in a race and sex discrimination lawsuit on behalf of Carlota Freeman, an African American former employee at the company's LeVergne, Tenn.-based facility. The EEOC alleged in its lawsuit that the appliance manufacturing giant failed to protect Freeman from persistent harassment by a white male coworker, which ultimately resulted in her being physically assaulted by him.

Health Care And Retirement Corporation Of America Settles EEOC Religious Discrimination Lawsuit

DETROIT – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has settled its religious discrimination lawsuit against Health Care and Retirement Corporation of America (HCRCA), a national operator of rehabilitation care centers based in Toledo, Ohio. The EEOC had charged that HCRCA violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 at its Canton, Mich., location by discharging former employee Gurmeet Dosanjh because of her Sikh religion.

SAN FRANCISCO — Jack in the Box franchisee Kobra Associates, Inc., which operates about 70 restaurants in Northern and Eastern California, violated federal law by allowing a manager at its Paradise, Calif., store to sexually harass female employees under his supervision, according to a federal lawsuit filed yesterday by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Federal Court Enters $130,000 Consent Decree Ending EEOC Lawsuit Against Mesaba Airlines

MINNEAPOLIS – Judge Donovan W. Frank of the federal district court in Minneapolis late yesterday entered a consent decree resolving a religious discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employ­ment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against Mesaba Airlines. The decree provides for the distri­bution of $130,000 to five discrimination victims as well as injunctive relief.
