EEOC OFFERS ANNUAL TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS NATIONWIDE

One-Day Seminars Available on EEO Topics for Private and Public Sector Employees During 2001

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced the schedule for its annual Technical Assistance Program Seminars (TAPS) during 2001, which are offered in approximately 50 cities nationwide.  TAPS are specialized training and education programs that provide practical, how-to-do-it guidance to private employers and government agencies.

"EEOC's Technical Assistance Program Seminars are instrumental in providing both employers and employees in the private and public sectors with valuable information and education on the application of the workplace anti-discrimination laws," said Commission Chairwoman Ida L. Castro. "Providing education and technical assistance on the EEO laws has always been a critical component of the Commission's mission.  I encourage all employers and employees to participate in the TAPS series in their area."

Through the TAPS series, participants hear directly from EEOC staff and other experts on the latest developments in employment law as well as Commission policies and practices.  As part of the program, participants also receive a comprehensive seven book set of manuals which provide practical guidance and information on legal requirements and EEOC procedures.

All of the seminars provide Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) Credit for Recertification for attendees on an hour-for-hour basis.  Moreover, applications have been made with numerous state bar associations for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. The $235 registration fee (per person, per day) includes a full day session with lunch, coffee breaks, and the seven book EEO library.

The first two seminars will be held in El Paso, Texas, on February 21, and Portland, Oregon, on March 7, 2001.  Other seminars in 2001 will be offered in such diverse geographic locations as Anaheim, California; Biloxi, Mississippi; and Chicago, Illinois. Detailed program information and schedules for specific locations, as well as information about the laws enforced by the Commission, are available on the agency's web site at www.eeoc.gov.  Additional information is also available by contacting EEOC's TAPS staff at (202) 663-7071, TTY (202) 663-7114, or toll free at 800-569-7118 (which provides a recorded message describing upcoming seminars and courses), or by e-mail at eeo.training@eeoc.gov.
