Martin Ebel Named EEOC’s Director of Field Programs Effective Oct. 1

WASHINGTON – Janet Dhillon, Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), has named Martin (“Marty”) S. Ebel to be the agency’s director of the Office of Field Pro­grams (OFP), effective Oct. 1, the federal agency announced today. The director of OFP is responsible for the daily operations of the EEOC’s 53 field offices.

“Marty’s long history of service in several key roles at the EEOC and his outstanding record of leadership make him well suited for this position,” said Chair Dhillon. “The public will be well served as a result of his management experience and extensive knowledge of the EEOC.”

“I would also like to extend our gratitude to Nicholas Inzeo who has been the director of the Office of Field Programs for 17 years and is retiring on Sept. 30,” Dhillon added.  “He has served the EEOC for over 44 years, including as Deputy Legal Counsel, Acting Legal Counsel, and Acting General Counsel. Nick has made significant contributions to advancing the mission of the agency throughout his successful career with the EEOC and we wish him well in his retirement.”

Ebel has been with the EEOC since 2010 and has served in key positions, most recently as the EEOC’s chief operating officer. He has also served as the deputy district director of the EEOC’s Houston District Office, then later as acting director, and as the director of Field Management Programs at EEOC headquarters, overseeing the agency’s investigative and enforcement functions. Before joining the EEOC, Ebel was general counsel, and later commissioner, of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD).

Ebel said, “I am happy to continue to serve the agency in this new capacity and delighted to return to working more directly with the field. I’m humbled by the confidence the Chair has expressed in naming me to this position and look forward to the challenges of continuing to implement the EEOC’s mission.”

A native of Michigan, Ebel earned his B.S. from Oakland University’s School of Business, in Rochester, Mich. He earned his J.D. at Boston College Law School, where he was the recipient of the St. Thomas More Award — the school’s highest honor.
