EEOC FY 2009 PERFORMANCE BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • The EEOC is requesting a budget of $341,925,000 and 2,556 full-time equivalents (FTE) for Fiscal Year 2009 to continue its enforcement and outreach efforts.
  • This request represents an increase of $12.625 million or 3.8% over the fiscal year 2008 budget.
  • Funding for the following are included:
    1. the 2.9% pay raise in accordance with Administration policy;
    2. staffing and information technology for the in-house customer response operation; and
    3. staffing (primarily investigators) to help us reduce our growing inventory of private sector enforcement charges.
  • Private Sector Enforcement – increase of 8,024 pending charges (11.9%) over the FY 2008 pending inventory
  • Mediation/ADR – decrease of 191 successful mediations (2.5%) under the FY 2008 pending inventory
  • Litigation – decrease of 22 pending cases (4%) under the FY 2008 pending inventory
  • State and Local – increase of 6,499 pending charges (13%) over the FY 2008 pending inventory
  • Hearings – decrease of 18 pending requests (less than 1%) under the FY 2008 pending inventory
  • Appeals – increase of 154 pending appeals (4.5%) over FY 2008 pending inventory
  • File Disclosure – approximately 16,000 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and 7,000 Section 83 Compliance Manual Disclosures
  • Outreach – decrease of $1.5 million (14.2%) under the FY 2008 budget level
  • As a result of the review conducted during Fiscal Year 2006, of our performance measures and results, a modified measurement structure and approach was developed and is reflected in this performance budget.
