Peters' Bakery, a family-owned business in East San Jose, violated federal law when the principal owner verbally abused an employee using ethnic and racial slurs, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  Additionally, the EEOC said Peters' Bakery retaliated against the employee by suing her in small claims court for defamation after she filed a discrimination charge with the EEOC.

El acuerdo, firmado por los representantes de la EEOC Kevin Berry y Spencer H. Lewis Jr., con el Ministro Cónsul General Jessica B. Escala Macafferi, establece oficialmente una colaboración de dos años entre las entidades gubernamentales para consolidar sus esfuerzos para hacer cumplir, proteger y educar a todos los ecuatorianos en los Estados Unidos acerca de sus derechos de empleo en el lugar de trabajo, independientemente de su estatus migratorio.

EEOC's New York, Philadelphia Offices and Consulate of Ecuador Sign Historic Partnership Agreement

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) New York and Philadelphia District Offices signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Consulate of Ecuador at a joint press conference in Newark today.  The agreement, signed by EEOC District Directors Kevin Berry and Spencer H. Lewis Jr., with Ecuadorian Minister Consul General Jessica B. Escala Macafferi, officially establishes a two-year collaboration between these government entities to solidify their efforts to enforce, protect and educate all Ecuadorian nationals in the United States about their employment rights of in the workplace, regardless of immigration status.

EEOC Sues Upper Chesapeake Health System for Disability Discrimination and Retaliation

Upper Chesapeake Health System, a leading health care provider in northeastern Maryland, committed unlawful disability discrimination and retaliation against an employee, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it announced today.  The EEOC charged that the health system failed to provide a reasonable accommodation, fired, and later refused to rehire a pulmonary function technologist because of her disability and in retaliation for her requesting an accommodation and complaining about discrimination.
