Brookdale Senior Living Communities Sued by EEOC for Disability Discrimination and Retaliation

Brookdale Senior Living Communities, Inc., a Delaware corporation based in Brentwood, Tenn., violated the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) in 2012 by failing to provide reasonable accommodations to Bernadine Adams, then the Health & Wellness Director of Brookdale's Heritage Club Mountain View facility in Denver, Colo., the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed September 24. The EEOC also alleged Brookdale further violated the ADA by retaliating against Adams by firing her for requesting a reasonable accommodation for her disability and for filing a charge of discrimination with the agency.

EEOC Sues Lakeland Eye Clinic for Sex Discrimination Against Transgender Employee

Lakeland Eye Clinic, a Lakeland, Fla.-based organization of health care professionals, discriminated based on sex in violation of federal law by firing an employee because she is transgender, because she was transitioning from male to female, and/or because she did not conform to the employer's gender-based expectations, preferences, or stereotypes, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. This is one of the first two lawsuits ever filed by the agency alleging sex discrimination against transgender individuals.  The other case, EEOC v. R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Homes, Inc. was filed today by the EEOC's Indianapolis District Office.

This is one of the first two lawsuits ever filed by the agency alleging sex discrimination against transgender individuals. The other case, EEOC v. Lakeland Eye Clinic, was filed today by the EEOC's Miami District office.

Oficina Del Distrito De Memphis De La EEOC Firmara Acuerdo De Alcance Historico Con El Consulado Mexicano

La Oficina del Distrito de Memphis de la Comisión Para la Igualdad de Oportunidades en el Empleo de los EE.UU. (EEOC) entrará en un Memorando de Entendimiento con el Consulado de México en Atlanta el viernes 26 de septiembre, la agencia anunció hoy. La firma tendrá lugar en la Oficina de la EEOC en Nashville, 250 Athens Way, Suite 350, Nashville, Tenn., a las 2:00 p.m.  El acuerdo establecerá una relación de colaboración constante entre estas dos entidades que proporcionará a los ciudadanos mexicanos con información, orientación, y acceso a recursos de educación y formación para ayudarles a ejercer sus derechos en el trabajo. El Cónsul General de México Ricardo Sánchez Cámara y Katharine W. Kores, directora de distrito de la Oficina de Distrito de Memphis de la EEOC, firmarán el acuerdo.

EEOC's  Memphis District Office to Sign Historic Outreach Agreement with Mexican Consulate

The Memphis District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Consulate of Mexico for Atlanta on Friday, Sept. 26, the agency announced today.  The signing will take place at the EEOC's Nashville Area Office, 250 Athens Way, Suite 350, Nashville, Tenn., at 2:00 p.m.   The agreement will establish an ongoing collaborative relationship between these two entities to provide Mexican nationals with information, guidance, and access to education and training resources to help them exercise their workplace rights.  Mexican Consul General Ricardo Camara Sánchez and Katharine W. Kores, district director of the EEOC's Memphis District Office, will sign the agreement.

VXI Global Solutions, a provider of call center services for major nationwide companies, violated federal law when it failed to stop and remedy the widespread sexual harassment of both female and male workers by company supervisors, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  The EEOC also alleged that the Los Angeles-based company retaliated against employees who reported the harassment.
