Menomonie Restaurant Owner in Contempt of Court

North Broadway Holdings, Inc., owner of a restaurant previously known as Sparx Restaurant, and currently operating as a Denny's franchise in Menomonie, Wisconsin, has been held in contempt of court under an order issued by United States District Judge Barbara B. Crabb on July 28, 2015. The contempt sanction stems from North Broadway Holdings' violation of a court order requiring it to submit information to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regarding its financial status and assets and to pay attorney's fees to the EEOC.

Abercrombie Resolves Religious Discrimination Case Following Supreme Court Ruling in Favor of EEOC

A federal appeals court has granted Abercrombie & Fitch's request to dismiss its appeal of EEOC's successful religious discrimination suit against the company, the federal agency announced today.  This represents the final resolution of EEOC v. Abercrombie & Fitch, which was first filed in 2009.  The case involved Abercrombie's refusal to hire Samantha Elauf, a Muslim, because of her religious practice of wearing a hijab.  Elauf filed her charge with the EEOC in 2008.

Court Prevents Peters' Bakery from Firing Employee Alleging Discrimination in EEOC Suit

Peters' Bakery, a family-owned business in East San Jose, may not terminate a sales clerk whose allegations of ethnic and racial harassment and retaliation are the basis for a federal lawsuit by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), according to a preliminary injunction recently issued by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division.  U.S. District Court Judge Beth Labson Freeman found that Peters' Bakery "gave no legitimate business reason for terminating Ms. Ramirez," and that "the EEOC is likely to succeed on its Title VII claims."

Vail Run Resort Community Association, Inc., a condominium complex in Vail, Colo., and its management company, Global Hospitality Resorts, Inc., violated federal law by allowing a housekeeping manager to sexually harass Mexican female employees, including attempted rape, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.

IDEX Corporation, a manufacturer and supplier of fluidics systems with locations nationwide, including multiple posts in Florida, violated federal anti-discrimination law when it terminated a regional manager based on his disability, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed on July 27, 2015.  The EEOC's lawsuit coincides with the ADA's 25th anniversary on July 22, 2015.

EEOC'S Atlanta Office Signs Historic Outreach Agreement with Philippine Embassy

The Atlanta District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the consular section of the Philippine embassy to the United States on July 19 in Augusta, Ga.  The agreement establishes an ongoing collaboration between these entities to provide Philippine nationals with information, guidance, and access to resources about workers' rights under the laws enforced by EEOC.  Philippine Third Secretary and Vice Consul Darell Artates, on behalf of Minister and Consul General Emilio T. Fernandez, and EEOC Atlanta District Office Outreach Manager Terrie Dandy, on behalf of District Director Bernice Williams-Kimbrough, signed the agreement.

EEOC Celebrates 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act July 23

Tomorrow, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) jointly with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) at an event at DOJ headquarters. During the event, the two agencies will announce a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to strengthen EEOC and DOJ's Civil Rights Division's enforcement of the ADA and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA).
