New Mexico Department of Corrections Sued by EEOC for Age Discrimination and Retaliation

The New Mexico Department of Corrections (NMDOC), which operates correctional facilities throughout New Mexico, discriminated against older workers in various ways with respect to promotions and terms, conditions and privileges of employment because they were over 40, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today. Further, EEOC said, when employees filed internal complaints, filed EEOC charges or participated in EEO investigations or proceedings, they were subjected to unlawful retaliation.

Vacation Resorts International (VRI), a provider of management and marketing services to resorts, condominiums, and timeshares, violated federal law when it permitted a manager at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort (which VRI manages) to sexually harass a groundskeeping / housekeeping employee, Katrina Archer, and other female employees, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed Sept. 30.  EEOC also charged VRI with unlawfully firing Archer when she resisted and reported the harassment.

Stanley Glaser, dba Glaser Organic Farms in Southwest Miami-Dade County, subjected its kitchen employees to a hostile work environment because of national origin and color, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency charged in a lawsuit filed today.   Glaser also unlawfully retaliated against an employee for filing a discrimination charge, the agency said.

John Q. Hammons Hotel Management violated federal civil rights laws by failing to stop a pattern of offensive racial comments and conduct directed at black employees at a Normal, Ill., Marriott Hotel that the company operates, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.  According to its website, the company is the largest private independent owner and hotel management company in the United States, managing 69 hotels in 24 states.
