DiMare Ruskin, Inc., a Florida-based tomato grower and produce provider, will pay $150,000 to two female farmworkers and take other steps to prevent and address unlawful harass­ment and retaliation at its farms and facilities nationwide as part of a three-year consent decree that will resolve a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.

Federal Court Hammers Fry's Electronics for Discovery Abuses in EEOC Harassment Suit

A federal judge ordered sanctions on July 3, 2012, including a $100,000 penalty, against Fry's Electronics, Inc., due to its actions in a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced.   The penalized behavior includes intentionally withholding evidence, raising a "fallacious" argument and demonstrating a "disturbing lack of candor to the tribunal."  According to U.S. District Court Judge Robert S. Lasnik, "The Court finds that defendant's conduct in this respect was unfair, unwarranted, unprincipled, and unacceptable."

Giumarra Vineyards Agrees to Sweeping Changes to Settle EEOC Suit Filed on Behalf of Indigenous Farmworkers

Giumarra Vineyards, one of the largest growers of table grapes in the United States, will settle a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.  The company agreed to comprehensive and sweeping changes of company procedures in dealing with discrimination and retaliation, affecting up to 3,000 employees and to expend a total of $350,000 to resolve EEOC's case.

Whirlpool Settles EEOC Race and Sexual Harassment Lawsuit for One Million Dollars

Whirlpool Corporation agreed to drop its appeal of a race and sex harassment judgment for over one million dollars and resolve the case with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Plaintiff-Intervenor, the federal agency announced today.  The settlement comes almost six years to the day after the EEOC's Memphis District Office first filed suit on June 9, 2006.
