EEOC Sues Nick's Restaurant for Disability Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Retaliation

PNS Investments, Inc. operating as Nick's Restaurant and Sports Bar, unlawfully discriminated against a server because of a disability, subjected her to sexual harassment and finally fired her in retaliation for complaining, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  Nick's is a sports bar and restaurant in the Houston area.

Sparks Restaurant to Pay $56,000 and Provide Injunctive Relief in EEOC  Retaliation Lawsuit

A federal district court has ruled that Sparx Restaurant of Menomonie, Wis., must pay back pay and interest to a former employee who was fired in retaliation for complaining about a racist display in the workplace, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.  Added to damages already awarded by the jury in the case, the EEOC will have recovered an aggregate of more than $56,000 for the former employee.  The court also enjoined Sparx from engaging in similar conduct and required training of Sparx's owner, Chris Brekken, and other managers.

Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchise Pays $40,000 to Settle EEOC Religious Discrimination Lawsuit

Scottish Food Systems, Inc. and Laurinburg KFC Take Home, Inc. will pay $40,000 and furnish other relief to resolve a religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Com­mission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  Scottish Food Systems and Laurinburg KFC Take Home are based in Laurinburg, N.C.  and jointly operate a chain of Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in North Carolina.

La Rana Hawaii, LLC, doing business as Señor Frog's, a popular Mexican-themed restaurant and bar in Honolulu, will pay $350,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of 13 female employees who were allegedly sexually harassed or retaliated against between 2007 and 2012, the federal agency announced today.

EEOC Sues Taboo 2 Bar & Bistro for Sexual Harassment

A popular Atlanta-area restaurant/nightclub violated federal law by subjecting female servers to a pattern of sexual harassment by a manager, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed recently against Sirdah Enterprises, Inc., which owns and operates Taboo 2 Bar and Bistro in Roswell, Ga. The agency also alleged that the working conditions were so intolerable that five of the women were forced to resign when they could no longer tolerate the abuse.

EEOC Sues Battaglia Distributing Company for Racial Discrimination

Battaglia Distributing Co., Inc., a Chicago wholesale food distributor located at 2500 South Ashland Avenue, permitted a hostile work environment where use of racial slurs was common, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  According to the EEOC, slurs were used by both black and white supervisors to scold black employees.  In addition, frequent, offensive racial banter among hourly workers was routinely tolerated by management.

Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., a Colorado-based nationwide restaurant chain, violated federal law when it fired an employee because of her cystic fibrosis and its treatment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  The EEOC said Chipotle subjected Amanda Connell to disability discrimination at its Franklin, Mass., location the day after she arrived at work with a shunt in her arm for the intravenous treatment of cystic fibrosis.
