UPS to Pay $4.9 Million to Settle EEOC Religious Discrimination Suit

United Parcel Service, Inc., the world's largest package delivery company, will pay $4.9 million and provide other relief to settle a class religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  The suit was resolved by a five-year consent decree entered by Judge Margo K. Brodie on December 21, 2018, on the eve of the government shutdown.  The EEOC reopened today.

Jury Awards $5.1 Million For Workers in EEOC Religious Discrimination Case Against United Health Programs of America, Inc. And Cost Containment Group, Inc.

Following a three-week trial, on April 25, a unanimous Brooklyn federal jury found that United Health Programs of America, Inc, which provides discount medical plans, and its parent Cost Containment Group, Inc. ("CCG"), violated federal law by coercing 10 employees to engage in religious practices at work and by creating a hostile work environment for nine of them. The jury also found CCG violated federal law by firing one employee, Faith Pabon, who opposed these practices.
