Nabors Industries and C&J Energy Services Sued By EEOC for Racial Harassment and Retaliation

Bermuda-based oilfield services companies Nabors Industries, Ltd. and C&J Energy Services, Ltd., Civil Action 05:16-CV-758-FB, violated federal law through widespread racial harassment of African-American employees and punishing those who complained about the abuse, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.

EEOC Releases Fiscal Year 2015 Enforcement and Litigation Data

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released detailed breakdowns of the 89,385 charges of workplace discrimination that the agency received in fiscal year 2015. Retaliation charges increased by nearly 5 percent and continue to be the leading concern raised by workers across the country.  Disability charges increased by 6 percent from last year and are the third largest category of charges filed.

BMW to Pay $1.6 Million and Offer Jobs to Settle Federal Race Discrimination Lawsuit

The U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina today entered a consent decree ordering BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC (BMW) to pay $1.6 million and provide job opportunities to alleged victims of race discrimination as part of the resolution of a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The lawsuit, filed by EEOC's Charlotte District Office, alleged that BMW excluded African-American logistics workers from employment at a disproportionate rate when the company's new logistics contractor applied BMW's criminal conviction records guidelines to incumbent logistics employees.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released a comprehensive set of fiscal year 2014 private sector data tables providing detailed breakdowns for the 88,778 charges of workplace discrimination the agency received. The fiscal year ran from Oct. 1, 2013, to Sept. 30, 2014.

EEOC Sues International Transport Provider to  Stop Race and National Origin Harassment

NFI Interactive Logistics LLC, a major transportation and distribution services provider, violated federal law by subjecting black employees at the company's Bolingbrook, Ill., facility to harassment based on race and national origin (Ghanaian), the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  NFI, which is headquartered in New Jersey, is a privately owned company that counts Trader Joe's, Costco, Wal-Mart and other retailing giants as clients.

Appeals Court Upholds Jury Verdict and All Relief Awarded Against A.C. Widenhouse in EEOC Race Harassment Case

In the latest of a series of successes in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC's) challenges to workplace racial harassment, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the EEOC's victory in obtaining a jury verdict and more than $243,000 and injunctive relief for victims of racial harassment and retaliation perpetrated by A.C. Widenhouse, Inc., a Concord, N.C.-based trucking company, the agency announced today.

Federal Court Approves EEOC Subpoena in Investigation of Giant Milwaukee Indian Casino

On May 6, U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman approved the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's application to enforce a subpoena against Potawatomi Bingo Casino in Milwaukee, the federal agency announced today.  The ruling allows the EEOC to proceed with its investigation of an age discrimination charge filed against the casino by former employee Federico Colón.  The casino is located near downtown Milwaukee and has more than 3,000 employees.

AA Foundries Agrees to Drop Appeal of  EEOC Racial Harassment Lawsuit

AA Foundries, a San Antonio manufacturer of ferrous castings and producer of foundry mold machines, has agreed to drop its appeal of a racial harassment judgment for $140,000 and resolve the case with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.  The settlement comes 2 ½ years after the EEOC's San Antonio Field Office first filed suit.

A BMW manufacturing facility in South Carolina, and the largest small-box discount retailer in the United States violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by implementing and utilizing a criminal background policy that resulted in employees being fired and others being screened out for employment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleged in two lawsuits filed today.
