Jury Awards More Than $1.5 Million in EEOC Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Suit against New Breed Logistics

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A jury has rendered a verdict of more than $1.5 million in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit against New Breed Logistics, a North Carolina-based logistics services provider, the agency announced today.   The verdict followed a seven-day trial before U.S. District Court Judge S. Thomas Anderson on behalf of four claimants and included awards of $177,094 in back pay, $486,000 in compensatory damages and $850,000 in punitive damages for the discrimination victims.

Olympia Construction, Inc. violated federal anti-discrimination laws when its project superintendent and a supervisor racially harassed three African-American employees at one of its Selma construction sites, according to a lawsuit filed March 29, 2013 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  Olympia Construction, headquartered in Albertville, Ala., develops and builds housing for families and senior citizens in eight states throughout the South and Southeastern United States.

Jury Verdict for EEOC Against Western Trading Company In Disability Case

A unanimous jury in federal court in Denver yesterday found for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in its disability discrimination lawsuit against Western Trading Company, Inc., an Army-Navy surplus company in metro Denver (EEOC v. Western Trading Co., Inc., Case #10-cv-02387-MJM-MJW).  The jury awarded $109,000 for Tyler Riley, an employee who was fired because of his seizure disorder.

EEOC Wins Second Victory Against RadioShack in Retaliation Case

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) won another victory in federal court in Denver on Feb. 27 in its employment discrimination lawsuit against major communications equipment retailer RadioShack.  Judge Lewis Babcock entered a judgment for a variety of relief, including back pay in accordance with a September jury verdict, liquidated damages, front pay, and an additional award to offset the increased taxes that will be incurred as a result of receiving the entire award in a lump sum of approximately $675,000.
