FedEx Ground to Pay $3.3 Million to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

PHILADELPHIA – FedEx Ground Package System, Inc. will pay $3.3 million and provide programmatic relief to resolve a companywide disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.

The EEOC charged that FedEx Ground denied deaf and hard-of-hearing package handlers reasonable accommodations and that it discriminated against deaf and hard-of-hearing applicants to the package handler position. EEOC and California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) Conciliate Disability Discrimination Charge

FRESNO, Calif. - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) announced today the successful conciliation of a charge filed with the agency under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The EEOC reached a voluntary agreement with the employer through the agency's conciliation process following its investigative findings. EEOC Announces Agency-Wide Telework

In response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is implementing agency-wide telework. Effective immediately all employees, other than the minimal staffing needed to handle mail, will be encouraged to telework until further notice.

The lawsuit was resolved through a consent decree, which U.S. District Judge Greg Guidry approved on July 26, 2019.
