EEOC Sues Owner of Golden LivingCenter – Dartmouth for Disability Discrimination

GGNSC Charlotte Renaissance LLC, a Delaware corporation that operates Golden LivingCenter-Dartmouth in Charlotte, N.C., discriminated against an employee with a disability and then unlawfully fired her, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today. Golden Living operates a nursing facility that provides care to individuals who are ill, physically and mentally disabled, and elderly.

Family Video to Pay $70,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today filed a consent decree resolving a disability discrimination lawsuit brought against Family Video Movie Club, Inc., known as Family Video, a Glenview, Ill.-based retailer of movies and games.  Family Video is the largest privately-owned movie and game retailer in the United States and operates more than 735 Family Video stores in 19 states with more than 7,000 employees.

Tyson Foods, Inc., one of the world's largest processors of chicken, beef and pork, will pay $35,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Tyson Foods refused to hire a former employee because he had epilepsy.

Product Fabricators, Inc., a Pine City, Minn., manufacturer, will pay $40,000 to settle a disability discrimination suit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC's consent decree resolving the case was approved yesterday by Judge Paul A. Magnuson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.

At a time when most pregnant women want and need to work, and more American workers struggle to balance work and family, discrimination against pregnant women and workers with caregiving responsibilities remains a significant problem, experts told the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission at a public meeting today.  The meeting follows up on Commission meetings in 2007, when the Commission issued its groundbreaking "Enforcement Guidance on Unlawful Disparate Treatment of Workers with Caregiving Responsibilities" and in 2009 when the Commission issued "Employer Best Practices for Workers with Caregiving Responsibilities."
