Arkansas Baptist College Sued By EEOC For Retaliation

Arkansas Baptist College (ABC) in Little Rock, Ark., violated federal law by prematurely canceling an employee's consulting contract and then refusing to allow her to teach classes because she had filed a discrimination charge, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed on July 26, 2010.  The employee's previous charge alleged discriminatory demotion.

EEOC Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary

July 2, 2010, marks the 45th anniversary of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Created by the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964, the EEOC was founded to enforce Title VII of that Act, which prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. On July 22, 2010 the EEOC will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which expanded employment opportunities for physically, emotionally and mentally disabled people.

A Charlotte-area scrap metal processing company has agreed to settle an age discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. Two Sonic Drive-In franchises in the Kingwood-Humble area with common ownership and management will pay $55,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that S.D.I. of Kingwood, doing business as the Kingwood Sonic Drive-In, and S.D.I. of Lee Rd., doing business as the Lee Road Sonic Drive-In, violated federal law by routinely subjecting teenaged female employees to abuse by a manager and others, including threatening one young worker with a knife.

Orkin Pest Control Sued By EEOC For Age And Religious Discrimination In Hiring And Advertising

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced that it has filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing pest control company Orkin of discriminatory hiring practices in denying jobs to older workers and favoring Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) (Mormon) applicants, particularly returned missionaries. The EEOC also charged that Orkin retaliated against an applicant who complained to the company's corporate headquarters about the alleged discrimination.

The damages will be made in retroactive payments to a group of 23 firefighters who had been discriminated against based on their age and provide increased monthly pension amounts going forward to several firefighters.

Bayville Fire Company Settles EEOC Age Discrimination Suit

The Bayville Fire Company on Long Island has agreed to settle a class age discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The fire company, as well as the Villages of Bayville, Mill Neck, and Centre Island, will pay a group of about 15-18 firefighters lost pension money and provide increased monthly pension amounts going forward to several firefighters. Depend­ing on how many class members are finally definitively identified and the exact damages established for each one, the final total damages should be $180,000 to $240,000.
