EZ Trip Settles EEOC Age Bias Suit for Refusal to Hire Qualified Older Job Applicants

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced the settlement of its lawsuit against Timeless Investments, Inc., doing business as EZ Trip Golden State Convenience and Auto/Truck Plaza, resolving claims that the Fresno, Calif.-based company failed to hire older job applicants for its convenience store due to age discrimination.

Houston Businesses Settle EEOC Age Discrimination Suit

Two Houston-area adult-oriented businesses have settled an age discrimination case brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  According to the EEOC's suit, AHD Houston, Inc. and W.L. York, Inc., doing business as Cover Girls, violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) by harassing and ultimately firing a waitress because of her age.

The City of Greensboro has agreed to pay $91,000 and furnish other relief to settle an age discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that the city failed to hire a 58-year-old job applicant in June 2007 in favor of three younger candidates.

SKMATCH, Inc., the operator of a Subway restaurant in Wilmington, N.C., will pay $55,000 and furnish other relief to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that two female employees who were subjected to a sexually hostile work environment at one of SKMATCH's Subway restaurants in Wilmington.

U.S. Senate Confirms EEOC Chair, Two Commissioners and General Counsel

In one of its last acts of the current session, on December 22, 2010, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nominations of Jacqueline A. Berrien to be Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC); Chai R. Feldblum and Victoria A. Lipnic to be Commissioners; and P. David Lopez to be the General Counsel.  All four were nominated to their positions by President Barack Obama and had been serving under recess appointments since April, 2010.

Pharmacy Giant Omnicare Will Pay $195,000 Under Consent Decree Ending EEOC Sex Harassment Case

Pharmacy giant Omnicare, Inc. will pay $195,000 to a class of five female sex discrimination victims under a consent decree entered by Magistrate Judge Stephen Crocker on December 21, 2010 in federal court in the Western District of Wisconsin. The damages had been sought in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC had charged that a class of women was subjected to sexual harassment at Omnicare's Pinnacle Pharmacy in La Crosse, Wis.
