Gaucho's Brazilian Steakhouse Sued by EEOC for Sexual Harassment

Gaucho's Brazilian Steakhouse, Inc., in Valparaiso, Ind., violated federal law by allowing a female employee to be sexually harassed, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  The EEOC also alleged that the employee was forced to resign from employment due to the severity of the harassment.

ITT To Pay $215,000 To Settle EEOC Sexual Harassment, Retaliation Suit

ITT Corporation, a New York-based high-technology engineering and manufacturing company, will pay $215,000 to settle a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that a female firefighter employed at the company's Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kekaha, Kauai, Hawaii, was sexually harassed and that she, along with a male co-worker, were retaliated against for complaining about the harassment.

Starbucks To Pay $75,000 To Settle  EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

Starbucks Coffee Company has agreed to pay $75,000 and provide other significant relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged Starbucks Coffee Company with unlawfully denying a reasonable accommodation to a barista with dwarfism at one of its El Paso stores and firing her because of her disability.

Old Dominion Freight Line Sued By EEOC For Disability Discrimination

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., a trucking company with a service center in Fort Smith, Ark., violated federal law by discriminating against at least one truck driver because of self-reported alcohol abuse, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. The company should have met its legal obligation to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act while assuring safety, rather than permanently sidelining self-reporting drivers, the EEOC contended.

New York University, the largest private university in the United States and one of New York City's ten biggest employers, will pay $210,000 and furnish other relief to settle a race and national origin harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had alleged that NYU violated federal law by subjecting an African-born employee to a hostile work environment that included degrading verbal harassment.
