EEOC Seeks Public Input on Draft Proposed Enforcement Guidance on Retaliation and Related Issues

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has voted to seek public input on proposed enforcement guidance addressing retaliation and related issues under federal employment discrimination laws. The Commission's enforcement guidance documents inform the public about the Commission's interpretation of the law and promote voluntary compliance.

New 'Digest Of EEO Law' Issued By EEOC

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced the latest edition of its federal sector Digest of Equal Employment Opportunity Law, which is available online. The Digest now includes hyperlinks so that stakeholders can easily access the full decisions which have been summarized. This quarterly publication, prepared by EEOC's Office of Federal Operations (OFO), features a wide variety of recent Commission decisions and federal court cases of interest. The current edition also includes a special year-end selection of notable EEOC decisions for fiscal year 2015 (which ended Sept. 30, 2015).

Hillshire Brands Company (formerly known as the Sara Lee Corporation) will pay $4 million to a group of 74 African-American former employees and provide other significant relief to settle a lawsuit where they were subjected to a racially hostile work environment at a former Sara Lee facility in Paris, Texas, the agency announced today.

EEOC Launches Direct Video Access to ASL Speakers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today it is launching a new service that will enable individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing whose primary language is American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate directly with agency staff about issues of discrimination they may be facing. EEOC information intake representatives who are fluent in ASL will be available to answer questions and guide callers through the process of filing a charge of discrimination using videophones.

Many Bases of Discrimination Can Lead to Harassment, Panel of Experts Tells EEOC Task Force

The bases of workplace harassment extend beyond sex and race to include age, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity, a panel of experts told the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace (STF) in a public meeting held yesterday. A second panel told the STF how the creative use of social media can spread an anti-harassment message, especially among millennials, or give a platform for workers to bring complaints to public attention.
