Kimberly A. Cruz Appointed Regional Attorney of EEOC’s New York District Office

NEW YORK – Kimberly A. Cruz, a 14-year supervisory attorney at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), was appointed to a senior executive position as regional attorney for the agency’s New York District effective July 28.

As regional attorney, Cruz will lead the New York District’s legal unit, conducting trial litigation and providing legal advice and other support to district staff responsible for investigating charges of discrimination.

“Ms. Cruz has a deep knowledge of the statutes we enforce, broad management experience, and a long-held commitment to the EEOC’s mission,” said EEOC General Counsel Karla Gilbride. “I am confident in her ability to lead the New York District legal unit.”

Cruz said, “I am excited for the challenges this opportunity offers and I look forward to continuing to work with the dedicated members of the New York District to create impactful change and combat unlawful employment discrimination.”

Cruz has substantial prior experience as an employee rights advocate. Prior to joining the EEOC, Cruz litigated civil rights, labor and employment matters in both the public and private sectors and taught at the Florida International University College of Law. At the EEOC, she supervised the development and litigation of significant systemic and individual cases involving a range of issues and resulting in millions of dollars for victims of discrimination.

Cruz earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and French from Barry University, and her juris doctor from The University of Miami School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude.

The EEOC’s New York District Office is responsible for processing discrimination charges, administrative enforcement and the conduct of agency litigation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, northern New Jersey, Rhode Island and Vermont.
