Katharine W. Kores

Katharine W. Kores was named District Director in the Memphis District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in January, 2006. She is in charge of enforcement of the major laws against employment discrimination in the states of Tennessee, Arkansas and the northern sixteen counties of Mississippi.

Ms. Kores earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, in 1972. She received her Juris Doctor from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at Memphis State University in 1978.

From 1978 to 1979, Ms. Kores practiced with the Memphis law firm of Ratner, Sugarman and Lucas. In October, 1979, she became a trial attorney in the Memphis District of the EEOC. In 1983, Ms. Kores became a senior trial attorney in the same office. In April, 1989, she was named supervisory trial attorney. In January 1998, Ms. Kores was named Regional Attorney for the Memphis District and was the field attorney in charge of EEOC litigation for Tennessee and Arkansas.

Ms. Kores was one of the developers of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) training which all EEOC attorneys received before that law became effective. She also served as an ADA trainer for the entire EEOC professional legal staff. Ms. Kores is a frequent speaker on a variety of employment discrimination issues.

Ms. Kores is licensed to practice law in Tennessee. In 2002, she was elected a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Memphis Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association.
