Meeting of February 15, 2012 - Unlawful Discrimination Against Pregnant Workers and Workers with Caregiving Responsibilities

Melvina Ford is the Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of the Administrator, Wage & Hour Division, U.S. Department of Labor, in Washington. D.C. In her role, she is responsible for a wide range of activities related to policy analysis and formulation, program planning, short and long-term program evaluation, and the analysis of research and evaluation bearing on the welfare of all workers.

Before assuming her current position, she served as the Executive Director of the D.C. Employment Justice Center, a community based organization that promotes and protects the legal rights of low wage workers. In her career, she has practiced as a litigator at the law firms of Tydings & Rosenberg and McKenna, Long & Aldridge, and she has served as the Legal Projects Manager for the Women's Law Center of Maryland, where she coordinated the Center's litigation efforts, represented the organization before the Maryland General Assembly and wrote and updated Center publications, such as Sex Discrimination in Employment, a guide to federal and Maryland employment laws for women.

Melvina graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center, and she is a member of the Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia bars.
