Dan Werner is Deputy Legal Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center and directs SPLC's Atlanta-based Immigrant Justice Project, where he has been since March 2008.  Dan had co-founded the Workers' Rights Law Center of New York, Inc. in 2004 with an Echoing Green fellowship after six years as an attorney with Farmworker Legal Services of New York, Inc. Before he began representing farmworkers in New York, Dan received a NAPIL (now called Equal Justice Works) Equal Justice Fellowship to provide legal representation to citrus harvest workers in Florida.  In 2005, Dan co-authored "A Guide to Civil Litigation on Behalf of Victims of Trafficking."  The Third Edition of the Guide was published and distributed in late 2008.  He is currently working on the Fourth Edition.  Dan has lectured and testified around the U.S. and in Europe on issues impacting victims of human trafficking and other forms of severe labor exploitation.  Dan is a 1996 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
