Jim Rotch has been a transaction lawyer and business counselor with Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP since 1972. He grew up in Fort Payne, Alabama, received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and his law degree from the University of Virginia. Over the course of his career he has participated in all aspects of complicated business and finance transactions of sizes varying from very small to very large.

He organized and chaired the Birmingham Area Technology Task Force (BATT Force) in 2001-2002 which as a joint effort of the City of Birmingham and the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce developed a strategic plan for the attraction, growth and development of technology industries in the Birmingham community. He chaired the Birmingham Area Technology Leadership Alliance (TechBirmingham) which is implementing the strategic plan developed by the BATT Force.

In recent years, Jim has devoted a substantial part of his practice to technology transfer matters, with more than eighteen years experience in biotechnology, licensing and commercialization matters. He is the founder and Co-Chairman of the law firm's Emerging Business and Technology Team.

Jim served as Chairman of the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce for 2004. Jim is also the author of the Birmingham Pledge, a personal commitment to put aside racial prejudice, that has evolved into an international movement. He chairs the Birmingham Pledge Foundation which leads that movement. The Birmingham Pledge was cited by Time magazine as "one of the U.S.'s most respected antiracism projects." He serves on the board of directors of several civic and business organizations.
