PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES REGINALD E. JONES AS EEOC COMMISSIONER

WASHINGTON -- President Clinton today announced his intent to nominate Reginald E. Jones as a Commissioner to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). If approved by the Senate, Mr. Jones would fill the vacancy left by R. Gaul Silberman who left the agency at the end of her term in June 1995.

EEOC CHAIRMAN COMMENDS HOUSE FOR PASSING REAUTHORIZATION OF ADR LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON -- Chairman Gilbert F. Casellas of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) praised yesterday's House passage of the Administrative Dispute Resolution Act of 1996 (ADRA). EEOC SUES THE HERTZ CORPORATION FOR DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION

DETROIT -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced the filing of a disability discrimination lawsuit against The Hertz Corporation. The lawsuit is the first filed by EEOC under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on behalf of individuals with mental retardation.

The lawsuit alleges that The Hertz Corporation discriminated against Donald Klem and Kenneth Miller, both developmentally disabled individuals. The suit states Hertz failed to provide Mr. Klem

EEOC ISSUES NEW GUIDANCE ON LEGAL STANDING OF "TESTERS"

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has issued new enforcement guidance restating its longheld position that "testers" have legal standing to file charges and litigate claims of employment discrimination. WASHINGTON -- I understand that Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America (MMMA) announced this morning that it has hired former U.S. Labor Secretary Lynn Martin to conduct a "third-party" review of the company's workplace policies and procedures. The EEOC, of course, supports any effort by an employer to eradicate discrimination in the workplace through education and training, and indeed the agency will be happy to offer our technical assistance in that area. EEOC AND GENERAL DYNAMICS CORPORATION SETTLE AGE DISCRIMINATION CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR $2.5 MILLION

ST. LOUIS, MO - The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and General Dynamics Corporation today filed a settlement agreement in federal district court resolving an age discrimination suit for $2.5 million for 31 former employees.

The lawsuit arises out of a l992 layoff that occured soon after General Dyamics moved its corporate headquarters from St. Louis to Falls Church, Virginia. In May l991, about 110 employees were relocated to Falls Church, but
