Rugo Stone to Pay $40,000 to Settle EEOC National Origin, Religion and Color Bias Lawsuit

Rugo Stone, LLC, a Fairfax County, Va.-based stone contracting company, agreed to pay $40,000 and furnish other significant relief to settle a national origin, religion and color discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. Rugo Stone has worked on a variety of high-profile buildings in Washington, D.C., including the U.S. Department of Transportation, the International Monetary Fund, the American Red Cross and the Newseum, as well as the embassies of Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.

Tyson Foods Settles EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

Tyson Foods, Inc., one of the world's largest processors of chicken, beef and pork, will pay $35,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Tyson Foods refused to hire a former employee because he had epilepsy.

EEOC Approves Strategic Plan For Fiscal Years 2012-2016

In a public meeting today at agency headquarters, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) approved its Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2012-2016.  The Strategic Plan establishes a framework for achieving the EEOC's mission to stop and remedy unlawful employment discrimination, so that the nation might soon realize the Commission's vision of justice and equality in the workplace.  Implementation of the new Strategic Plan will begin in March 2012.

Jimmy's Charhouse of Elgin Pays $205,000 to Resolve EEOC Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

Jimmy's Charhouse of Elgin, an Elgin, Ill., steakhouse, will pay $205,000 to resolve a sex discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC sued Jimmy's Charhouse on behalf of female employees who charged that they were sexually harassed by restaurant employees, including managers. The case, EEOC v. Jimmy's Charhouse of Elgin, Inc. (10 C 6181), was filed on September 27, 2010.

Brooks County, Texas will pay $20,000 and furnish other relief to settle an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that the county government unlawfully retaliated against an employee for filing an age discrimination complaint.

Convergys Settles EEOC Suit for Religious Discrimination

Convergys Customer Management Group, a subsidiary of the Cincinnati-based Convergys Corp., a global provider of customer management services, will pay $15,000 and furnish other relief to settle a religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the EEOC announced today.  The EEOC charged Convergys with violating federal law by refusing to hire a call center job applicant who could not work on Saturdays due to his religious beliefs.

Product Fabricators to Pay $40,000 to Settle Disability Discrimination Suit

Product Fabricators, Inc., a Pine City, Minn., manufacturer, will pay $40,000 to settle a disability discrimination suit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC's consent decree resolving the case was approved yesterday by Judge Paul A. Magnuson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.

Unlawful Discrimination Based on Pregnancy and Caregiving Responsibilities Widespread Problem, Panelists Tell EEOC

At a time when most pregnant women want and need to work, and more American workers struggle to balance work and family, discrimination against pregnant women and workers with caregiving responsibilities remains a significant problem, experts told the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission at a public meeting today.  The meeting follows up on Commission meetings in 2007, when the Commission issued its groundbreaking "Enforcement Guidance on Unlawful Disparate Treatment of Workers with Caregiving Responsibilities" and in 2009 when the Commission issued "Employer Best Practices for Workers with Caregiving Responsibilities."

North Texas Air Conditioning Company Settles EEOC Sexual Harassment Suit Just Before Trial

Weatherford, Texas-based Hobson Air Conditioning, Inc. has settled a sexual harassment and constructive discharge lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) the day before the case was to be presented to a jury, the federal agency announced today.  The settlement pays the discrimination victim in this case $37,500 and provides extensive injunctive relief to prevent future unlawful conduct.

EEOC Unanimously Approves Final Rule Revising Federal Sector Complaint Processing Regulations

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on Feb. 1 voted unanimously to approve changes to the regulations that govern the Federal EEOC process.  With the bipartisan vote, the Commission submitted to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and all other Federal agencies its "Final Rule Revising its Federal Sector Complaint Processing Regulations".  This final rule is part of an ongoing review by the Commission of the federal sector EEO process in which the Commission is examining recommendations regarding the investigative function and other internal reviews of the Commission's role in the EEO process.
