EEOC Commissioners to Explain Disability Discrimination Law in Coast-To-Coast Tour

Two Commissioners of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will go on a cross-country tour in September to explain and discuss the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA).  The series of training seminars is aimed at employment law practitioners, human resource and equal employment opportunity/diversity specialists, and managers dealing with issues of reasonable accommodation.

MKB Construction Settles EEOC Retaliation Discrimination Suit

Phoenix-based MKB Construction will pay $38,500 and furnish other relief to settle a retaliation discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employ­ment Oppor­tunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged the company with violating federal law by firing an employee for reporting sexual harassment.

EEOC Sues Help at Home for  Sexual Harassment and Retaliation

Help at Home, Inc., a company that provides home health care to elderly and disabled individuals in their homes, violated federal law by allowing the company's regional director to sexually harass employees, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a discrimination lawsuit filed today.  The company also unlawfully fired the victims and their supervisor for complaining, the EEOC said.

Wal-Mart Settles EEOC Lawsuit for $50,000

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Wal-Mart Stores East, L.P. will pay $50,000 in back pay and damages in settlement of a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  The EEOC had charged that a Carlsbad, N.M., Walmart store unlawfully fired a part-time sales clerk because of her cerebral palsy.

EEOC Releases FY 2011 Federal Sector Report

Federal employees and applicants filed 16,974 complaints of employment discrimination in fiscal year 2011, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) "Annual Report on the Federal Work Force Part I:  EEO Complaints Processing for Fiscal Year 2011."  The report issued today assesses federal agencies' equal employment opportunity complaint processing program statistics.  The full text of the report is available on the EEOC's web site at: http://www.eeoc.gov/federal/reports/fsp2011/index.cfm.

Hawaii Electric Company to Pay $50,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO) will pay $50,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that HECO denied an employee a meter reader position due to an eye condition.  HECO, an electric distribution company, is the primary energy provider for the Hawaiian islands.

JES/Genie Temps to Pay $80,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

JES Personnel Consultants, Inc., doing business as Genie Temporary Service, will pay $80,000 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that JES unlawfully refused to allow an employee to return to work because of his epilepsy.  Genie is a temporary service agency with an office in LaSalle, Ill., that supplies employees to various client employers.

An Ellicott City, Md., assisted living center will pay $25,000 and furnish other relief to settle a religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Morningside House of Ellicott City denied hire to a Muslim job applicant because she refused to remove her hijab, a headscarf worn by Muslim women as a religious obligation.
