Next Commission Meeting Wednesday, March 20

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold a meeting on Wednesday, March 20, at 9:50 a.m. (Eastern Time), at agency headquarters, 131 M Street, N.E. In accordance with the Sunshine Act, the open session of the meeting will be open to public observation of the Commission's deliberations and voting.  The meeting will address the development of the agency's Quality Control Plan (QCP) for investigations and conciliations.  For scheduling purposes, the meeting is anticipated to conclude at 4:00 p.m, with an hour break taken around 1:00 p.m.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today issued a comprehensive report addressing major obstacles hindering equal opportunities for African Americans in the federal work force, in addition to highlighting stakeholder recommendations.  The report is available on EEOC's website at http://www.eeoc.gov/federal/reports/aawg.cfm.

Day & Zimmerman Resolve EEOC Racial Discrimination Claims for $190,000

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and Day & Zimmerman NPS, a leading supplier of maintenance, labor, and construction services to the power industry, yesterday filed a consent decree resolving EEOC's claims that Day & Zimmerman violated federal law by creating a hostile work environment for an African-American laborer.  In the lawsuit, EEOC alleged that Day & Zimmerman, through its foreman at the Poletti Power Plant in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., had subjected Carlos Hughes to physical and verbal racial harassment.

EEOC Sues QSI / Stellar Management Group for Sex Discrimination

Stellar Management Group, Inc., doing business as QSI, a contract sanitations services company that provides sanitation services to meat processing facilities in middle Georgia, violated federal law when it fired a female supervisor because of her sex, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.

Jury Verdict for EEOC Against Western Trading Company In Disability Case

A unanimous jury in federal court in Denver yesterday found for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in its disability discrimination lawsuit against Western Trading Company, Inc., an Army-Navy surplus company in metro Denver (EEOC v. Western Trading Co., Inc., Case #10-cv-02387-MJM-MJW).  The jury awarded $109,000 for Tyler Riley, an employee who was fired because of his seizure disorder.

EEOC New Orleans Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Mexican Consulate

The New Orleans Field Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans on March 14.  The agreement establishes an ongoing collaborative relationship between these two entities to provide Mexican nationals with information, guidance, and access to resources on the prevention of discrimination in the workplace, regardless of documentation status.  Andrea García Guerra, consul of Mexico in New Orleans, and Keith T. Hill, director of EEOC's New Orleans Field Office, will sign the agreement.

Federal Court Grants Injunction Against A.C. Widenhouse in EEOC Race Harassment Cast

Following on the heels of a legal victory for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), a North Carolina federal court has awarded more than $243,000 and injunctive relief against A.C. Widenhouse, Inc., a Concord, N.C.-based trucking company, in a race harassment and retaliation case, the agency announced today.

Grand Central Partnership to Pay $135k to Settle EEOC Lawsuit for Retaliation

Grand Central Partnership, Inc. will pay $135,000 and furnish other relief to settle an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency said today.  The EEOC had charged that the not-for-profit developer of real estate, offices, and facilities around Grand Central Terminal in New York City unlawfully fired a black Rastafarian security officer for his 2010 complaints of threats of violence and racism and his participation in an EEOC lawsuit resolved in 2009.

EEOC Wins Second Victory Against RadioShack in Retaliation Case

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) won another victory in federal court in Denver on Feb. 27 in its employment discrimination lawsuit against major communications equipment retailer RadioShack.  Judge Lewis Babcock entered a judgment for a variety of relief, including back pay in accordance with a September jury verdict, liquidated damages, front pay, and an additional award to offset the increased taxes that will be incurred as a result of receiving the entire award in a lump sum of approximately $675,000.

REDC Default Solutions to Pay $50,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

An Irvine, Calif.-based company will pay $50,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged REDC Default Solutions, LLC with unlawfully failing to accommodate a disabled worker at its Plano, Texas location.

Commission Discusses Strategic Plan Progress

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today held a public meeting to discuss implementation of the Commission's fiscal year 2012-2016 Strategic Plan. The Commission approved the Strategic Plan in a 4-1 vote in February 2012.
