Step Three to Pay $60,000 for EEOC Pregnancy and Disability Discrimination Suit

Step Three, Ltd., a Hawaiian resort retailer, will pay $60,000 for discriminating against an employee because of her fertility treatments and eventual pregnancy, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.   The EEOC simultaneously filed and resolved its pregnancy and disability discrimination suit against Step Three in a settlement that includes widespread changes to company policy and procedures.

MEDIA ADVISORY: EEOC to Announce Settlement Involving Discrimination Against Over 100 Thai Farm Workers

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will announce the settlement of a lawsuit against a major employer involving national origin discrimination against over 100 Thai farm workers in Hawaii at a Los Angeles news conference on Nov. 18. In 2011, EEOC announced the filing of lawsuits against Global Horizons, a California-based labor contractor, and eight farms in the states of Hawaii and Washington [EEOC v. Global Horizons, Inc. d/b/a Global Horizons Manpower, Inc. et al. Case No. CV-11-00257-DAE-RLP (Hawaii) and EEOC v. Global Horizons, Inc. d/b/a Global Horizons Manpower, Inc. et al, Case No. 2:11-cv-03045-EFS (Washington)]. The settlement to be announced involves one of the eight farms named.

EEOC Meeting Highlights Challenges to Title VII National Origin Enforcement

The diversity, size and cultural individuality of different ethnic and immigrant groups present challenges to compliance with and enforcement of the nation's anti-discrimination in employment laws, a panel of experts told members of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) at a public meeting held today.  The panelists represented diverse stakeholders, including EEOC employees, representatives of major ethnic advocacy groups and management-side attorneys.

EEOC Sues Taboo 2 Bar & Bistro for Sexual Harassment

A popular Atlanta-area restaurant/nightclub violated federal law by subjecting female servers to a pattern of sexual harassment by a manager, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed recently against Sirdah Enterprises, Inc., which owns and operates Taboo 2 Bar and Bistro in Roswell, Ga. The agency also alleged that the working conditions were so intolerable that five of the women were forced to resign when they could no longer tolerate the abuse.
