CollegeAmerica Sued by EEOC For Age Discrimination and Retaliation

CollegeAmerica, a private college based in Salt Lake City, violated federal age discrimination law by including unlawful provisions in a separation agreement with one of its former campus directors, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed on April 30. The EEOC also charged that CollegeAmerica further violated federal law by retaliating against the campus director by suing her seven days after learning she filed a discrimination charge.

McPhee Electric Ltd., an electrical construction company with offices in Connecticut, and Bond Bros., Inc., a construction management and design company with an office in Connecticut, unlawfully refused to hire an applicant as a carpenter because of his dyslexia, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it announced today.

PJP Health to Pay $300,000 to Settle EEOC Age Discrimination and Retaliation Lawsuit

PJP Heath, Inc. will pay a total of $300,000 to three former employees to settle a lawsuit for age-based harassment, discrimination and retaliation filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  This Long Island sales insurance company is currently located in Melville, Long Island and also had a former location in Lake Success.

President Appoints Jenny R. Yang EEOC Vice Chair

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced that President Barack Obama has appointed Commissioner Jenny R. Yang as Vice Chair of the EEOC.  Yang, whose term expires July 1, 2017, was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 25, 2013.

Federal Appeals Court Rules for EEOC in its Disability Discrimination Case Against Ford Motor

The majority of a panel of judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit decided on April 22 that the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) had created issues sufficient for trial in its disability discrimination lawsuit against the Ford Motor Company.  The EEOC had charged that Ford violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by denying a former employee the opportunity to telework and by firing her after she filed an EEOC charge.

EEOC Wins Summary Judgment in American Tool & Mold Disability Case

In an order issued late Wednesday afternoon, a federal judge ruled in favor of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that a Clearwater, Fla.-based company, American Tool & Mold, Inc. (ATM), violated federal disability discrimination law by withdrawing a job offer because of the applicant's old back injury.  ATM designs and manufactures injection molds for plastics.

Kenan Transport, LLC, a Delaware trucking company that operates a terminal in Spartanburg, S.C., will pay $27,000 to settle a pregnancy discrimination and retaliation lawsuit brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged in its lawsuit that Kenan Transport violated federal law by discriminating against a female employee because she was pregnant and by retaliating against her because she made complaints about pregnancy discrimination.

Appeals Court Rules for the EEOC in Age Bias Lawsuit Against Baltimore County

In a second victory for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in this case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit rejected Baltimore County's appeal of a district court decision finding that Baltimore County's pension plan discriminates based on age, the EEOC announced today.  The court's 17-page opinion, issued on March 31, affirmed the grant of partial summary judgment in favor of the EEOC finding that Baltimore County maintained a retirement plan in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) and remands the case for further proceedings on the issue of damages.

Davis Typewriter Company Settles  EEOC Sexual Harassment Suit

Davis Typewriter Company, a Worthington, Minn., office furniture and office supply company, will be subject to a sweeping federal court injunction and pay $11,000 in emotional-distress damages to a former employee to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The consent decree resolving the case was approved late yesterday by Judge David S. Doty of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
