EEOC to Hold Workshops in Washington DC for EEO, Civil Rights and HR Professionals

WASHINGTON -- The EEOC Training Institute and the Washington Field Office (WFO) of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold Equal Employment Opportunity seminars on Friday, August 26 and Monday, September 12, 2011.

These seminars are aimed at HR and personnel specialists; EEO specialists, counselors and investigators; civil rights officers; mediators and other alternative dispute resolution specialists; labor and employee relations specialists; and labor and employment law attorneys, in both the public and private sectors. 

On Friday, August 26, 2011, a full-day Technical Assistance Seminar will take place at the Crowne Plaza Tyson's Corner Hotel, 1960 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, Virginia 22102. It will highlight cutting-edge EEO topics and provide expert presentations on EEOC policies and procedures, including:

  • Legal Updates and Emerging EEO Issues
  • The New ADAAA Regulations
  • National Origin and Immigration Discrimination in the Workplace
  • Equal Pay and the Law
  • Using Social Media, Credit Checks and Criminal Background Investigations to Make Employment Decisions in the Electronic Age

The fee of $349 includes the seminar, an 8-volume EEO Resource Guide on CD, lunch and refreshments. A discount rate of $319 is available for on-line registration with a credit card or electronic check payment and for mailed registrations with check payment or faxed/mailed registrations with credit card information received by Friday, August 12, 2011. This seminar meets the yearly refresher training requirement for Federal agency EEO investigators. Recertification credits from HRCI and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits will be requested upon attendee request.

On Monday, September 12, 2011, in Washington DC, the EEOC will hold two interactive training sessions at the ASAE - the Center for Association Leadership Eye Street Conference Center, 1575 I Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005. The morning session will be on "Harassment in the Workplace." The afternoon session, "Disability and Genetics in the Workplace: ADAAA, the Reasonable Accommodation Obligation and GINA," will highlight important considerations to employers in understanding and implementing the law and the final regulations under the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA), as well as how to provide reasonable accommodations under the ADAAA. The seminar fee of $175 per workshop includes training, handouts and refreshments. Lunch will be provided to individuals who sign up for both sessions.
