Supervalu / Jewel-Osco to Pay $3.2 Million under Consent Decree for Disability Bias

A federal judge today signed a consent decree for $3,200,000 and extensive remedial relief resolving the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) disability discrimination lawsuit against supermarket giants SUPERVALU INC., American Drug Stores LLC, and Jewel Food Stores, Inc. (collectively referred to as "Jewel-Osco").

Crye-Leike / Bankers Asset Management Sued by EEOC for Race Discrimination and Retaliation

A group of real estate brokerage and management companies based in Little Rock and Memphis violated federal law by refusing to hire a class of black applicants because of their race and retaliating against employees and former employees for opposing the discrimination, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed on December 30.

Wilmington Subway Operator to Pay $55,000 to Resolve Sexual Harassment Complaint

SKMATCH, Inc., the operator of a Subway restaurant in Wilmington, N.C., will pay $55,000 and furnish other relief to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that two female employees who were subjected to a sexually hostile work environment at one of SKMATCH's Subway restaurants in Wilmington.

U.S. Senate Confirms EEOC Chair, Two Commissioners and General Counsel

In one of its last acts of the current session, on December 22, 2010, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nominations of Jacqueline A. Berrien to be Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC); Chai R. Feldblum and Victoria A. Lipnic to be Commissioners; and P. David Lopez to be the General Counsel.  All four were nominated to their positions by President Barack Obama and had been serving under recess appointments since April, 2010.

Pharmacy Giant Omnicare Will Pay $195,000 Under Consent Decree Ending EEOC Sex Harassment Case

Pharmacy giant Omnicare, Inc. will pay $195,000 to a class of five female sex discrimination victims under a consent decree entered by Magistrate Judge Stephen Crocker on December 21, 2010 in federal court in the Western District of Wisconsin. The damages had been sought in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC had charged that a class of women was subjected to sexual harassment at Omnicare's Pinnacle Pharmacy in La Crosse, Wis.

Huntersville Seafood, Inc. doing business as Captain's Galley restaurant, violated federal law by subjecting male employees to a sexually hostile work environment and by firing one of its male employees for complaining, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. On Wednesday, December 8, the Philadelphia District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold a public event to commemorate the agency's 45 th anniversary and to discuss the status of its ongoing efforts to eradicate workplace discrimination. The event will be held at the National Constitution Center, Kirby Auditorium, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
