New York Law Firm Settles EEOC  Age Discrimination Suit

Kelley Drye & Warren, a law firm with over 300 attorneys, has agreed to end its policy of requiring partners to give up their equity in the firm once they reach 70 years of age and to pay $574,000 to an attorney who continued to practice at the firm after he turned 70, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today.

Stuart J. Ishimaru, a member of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) since 2003, announced that he will resign his position as Commissioner this month. Mr. Ishimaru was nominated by President George W. Bush and is currently serving his second term that expires July 1, 2012.

Judge Approves Guam Aircraft Company's Settlement of EEOC Religious Discrimination Suit

A federal judge has approved the settlement by Aviation Concepts, Inc., an aircraft retailer and service provider in Guam, of a religious discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today. Aviation Concepts will pay $51,000 and furnish extensive relief to settle the EEOC's suit.

AutoZone to Pay $75,000 to Settle EEOC Religious Discrimination Lawsuit

AutoZone, Inc., a Fortune 500 distributor and retailer of automobile parts, will pay $75,000 plus attorneys' fees and provide other nationwide relief to settle a discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency announced today. The EEOC's lawsuit, filed in September 2010, charged that AutoZone violated federal law when it subjected Frank Mahoney Burroughs, an employee who had converted to the Sikh religion, to harassment and refused to accommodate his religious need to wear a turban.

EEOC Issues Final Rule on "Reasonable Factors Other than Age" Under the ADEA

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today issued the "Final Regulation on Disparate Impact and Reasonable Factors Other than Age" (RFOA)  under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA). The final rule was coordinated with other federal agencies and reviewed by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).  The rule was posted for public inspection today and will be published in the Federal Register on Friday, March 30.

EEOC Wins Disability Discrimination Suit Against Payday Lender 'The Cash Store'

Today the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced a victory in one of its first disability discrimination lawsuits taken to trial concerning bipolar disorder. Following a four-day bench trial, a federal district court entered judgment for $56,500 against Irving, Tex.-based Cottonwood Financial. The court found that the company violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD) when it fired an employee from its Walla Walla, Wash., store.

EEOC Sues Owner of Golden LivingCenter – Dartmouth for Disability Discrimination

GGNSC Charlotte Renaissance LLC, a Delaware corporation that operates Golden LivingCenter-Dartmouth in Charlotte, N.C., discriminated against an employee with a disability and then unlawfully fired her, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today. Golden Living operates a nursing facility that provides care to individuals who are ill, physically and mentally disabled, and elderly.
