Acoso Laboral Sigue Siendo un Gran Problema Dicen Expertos en Reunion de la EEOC

Se alega que en aproximadamente que el 30 por ciento de todas las quejas presentadas ante la Comisión Para la Igualdad de Oportunidades en el Empleo (EEOC) son de acoso laboral, de acuerdo a la Presidenta de la EEOC Jenny Yang, quien presidió su primera reunión de la comisión de su mandato. Workplace Harassment Still a Major Problem Experts Tell EEOC at Meeting

Workplace harassment is alleged in approximately 30 percent of all charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), according to EEOC Chair Jenny R. Yang, who presided over the first commission meeting of her tenure today. Newly sworn in Commissioner Charlotte Burrows was present at the meeting, bringing the EEOC back to full strength of five commissioners.

Charlotte A. Burrows fue juramentado hoy como Comisionado de la Comisión Para la Igualdad de Oportunidades en el Empleo (EEOC), la agencia anunció esta mañana. Burrows fue nominada por el Presidente Obama el 12 de septiembre de 2014, y fue confirmada el 3 de diciembre de 2014 por una votación en el Senado de 93-2 para servir como Comisionada por un plazo que expirará el 1ro de julio de 2019.

Charlotte Burrows Sworn In as EEOC Commissioner

Charlotte A. Burrows was sworn in today as Commissioner of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced this morning.  Burrows was nominated by President Obama on Sept. 12, 2014, and was confirmed on Dec. 3, 2014 by a Senate vote of 93-2 to serve as Commissioner, for a term expiring July 1, 2019.

EEOC  to Probe Harassment at Jan. 14 Meeting

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will hold a meeting on Wed., Jan. 14, at 9:30 a.m. (Eastern Time), at agency headquarters, 131 M Street, N.E., Washington D.C.  In accordance with the Sunshine Act, the open session of the meeting will be open to public observation of the Commission's deliberations. EEOC staff will also live tweet from the public meeting using the @EEOCNews Twitter handle and the hashtag #EEOCmtg.

Baker Wellness Center, Inc., a Baton Rouge, La., area adult day care and wellness center, illegally fired a Direct Service Worker (DSW) because she had a disability--diabetes, and in retaliation for her not giving prohibited medical information on its application, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged in a lawsuit filed today.

Shipley's Do-Nuts Franchise Sued by EEOC for Pregnancy Discrimination and Retaliation

D & S Shipley Donuts d/b/a Shipley's Do-Nuts, a Katy-area franchise of Shipley's Do-Nuts, violated federal anti-discrimination laws when it forced an employee whom it suspected of being pregnant, to take unpaid leave until she was cleared by a doctor indicating that she could work despite her pregnancy, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today. When the employee failed to provide a release, and after she and her mother disputed the legality of the requirement, the employee was fired in retaliation.

Appellate Court Overturns $4 Million Fee Award Against EEOC

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit issued an order Monday reversing a federal district court's decision granting over $4 million in fees and costs to CRST Van Expedited Inc. (CRST), a trucking company, against the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and remanding the case back to the lower court to "individually assess each of the claims" and "explain why it deems a particular claim to be frivolous, unreasonable, or groundless."

Sony to Pay $85,000 under Decree Resolving EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

Sony Electronics, Inc. will pay $85,000 under a consent decree entered in federal court today ending a lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC alleged that Sony violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when it brought about the termination of a woman with a prosthetic leg because of her disability.

Justice Department Files Pregnancy Discrimination Lawsuit against the Chicago Board of Education

The Justice Department today announced the filing of a lawsuit against the Chicago Board of Education, alleging that the board discriminated against pregnant teachers at Scammon Elementary School by subjecting them to adverse personnel actions, including termination in some instances, after they announced their pregnancies. According to the complaint, these adverse personnel actions were in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  Title VII is a federal statute that prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin and religion. The statute explicitly prohibits employers from discriminating against female employees due to pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.
