Unit Drilling to Pay $400,000 to Settle EEOC Systemic Sex Discrimination Suit

Unit Drilling Company, a nationwide oil drilling company, will pay $400,000 and furnish other relief to settle a systemic sex discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had alleged that Unit Drilling refused to hire any women nationwide on its oil rigs.

Patterson-UTI Drilling to Pay $14.5 Million to Settle Claims of Race / National Origin Discrimination

Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC, a Snyder, Texas-based multistate oil drilling company, will pay $14.5 million and furnish other relief to settle a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and to resolve several cases through separate conciliation agreements, the agency announced today.  The EEOC charged the company with race and national origin discrimination, harassment and retaliation at its facilities throughout the country.

EEOC Issues Proposed Rule on Application of the ADA to Employer Wellness Programs

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) describing how Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) applies to employer wellness programs that are part of group health plans. The NPRM is available in the Public Inspection portion of the Federal Register, and will be officially published on Monday, April 20, 2015. Members of the public have 60 days from that date (or until Friday, June 19) to submit comments.

Lakeland Eye Clinic will Pay $150,000 to Resolve Transgender / Sex Discrimination Lawsuit

Lakeland Eye Clinic, a Lakeland, Fla.-based organization of health care professionals, will pay $150,000 to settle one of the first two lawsuits ever filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleging sex discrimination against a transgender individual, the agency announced today.  Lakeland additionally agreed to implement a new gender discrimination policy and to provide training to its management and employees regarding transgender/gender stereotype discrimination. The settlement was approved by the U.S. District Court in Tampa late Thursday, April 9, 2015.

Sheet Metal Union Agrees to Pay an Estimated $12 Million in Partial Settlement of Race Bias Lawsuit

Subject to approval by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Local 28 of the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association, the trade union for sheet metal journeypersons in New York City, has agreed to create a back pay fund for a group of minority sheet metal workers in partial settlement of race discrimination claims against the local union.

Justice Department Files Lawsuit Alleging that Southeastern Oklahoma State University Discriminated Against Transgender Woman

The Justice Department announced today the filing of a lawsuit against Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Southeastern) and the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) for violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by discriminating against a transgender employee on the basis of her sex and retaliating against her when she complained about the discrimination.

EEOC Seeks Public Input on Plan to Review its Significant Regulations

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it is inviting the public to provide input on its ongoing review of significant existing EEOC regulations to determine whether they should be modified, streamlined, expanded, or repealed.  The review is conducted pursuant to Executive Order (EO) 13563, "Improving Regulation and Regulatory Review," found at 76 Fed. Reg. 3821 (Jan. 21, 2011).  Comments may be submitted to Public.Comments.RegulatoryReview@eeoc.gov through April 20, 2015.
