EEOC Issues New Resource Documents for White House United State of Women Summit

Today, leaders from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will participate in the White House United State of Women Summit. The Summit gathers experts, advocates, and grassroots and business leaders who work in both domestic and international arenas to highlight key issues affecting women and girls and best practices to carry on into the future. The Summit's plenary and breakout sessions will address topics including economic empowerment, health and wellness, educational opportunity, violence against women, entrepreneurship and innovation, and leadership and civic engagement. The Summit will be livestreamed at www.theunitedstateofwomen.org.

EEOC Releases Fiscal Year 2015 Enforcement and Litigation Data

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today released detailed breakdowns of the 89,385 charges of workplace discrimination that the agency received in fiscal year 2015. Retaliation charges increased by nearly 5 percent and continue to be the leading concern raised by workers across the country.  Disability charges increased by 6 percent from last year and are the third largest category of charges filed.

DeHaven's Transfer & Storage, Inc., a residential and commercial moving company, has agreed to pay $35,000 and provide significant relief to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. EEOC had charged in its lawsuit that DeHaven's violated federal law by discrimin­ating against a female employee when it fired her because she was pregnant.

Allsup's Convenience Stores Sued by EEOC for Disability and Pregnancy Discrimination

Allsup's Convenience Stores, Inc., a New Mexico company which owns and operates over 300 convenience stores in New Mexico and Texas, discriminated against a group of pregnant women with disabilities when they asked for reasonable accommodations to do their jobs, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today. Allsup's also subjected pregnant women to forced leaves and terminations because of their disabilities and/or pregnancies, childbirth or related medical conditions, EEOC said.
