Saks Fifth Avenue Settles EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

HOUSTON — Saks Fifth Avenue, the high-end retailer based in New York City, has agreed to pay $170,000 to settle a disability discrimination suit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Oppor­tunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The settlement resolves the charge of a former Saks makeup artist, Marlene Babin, who claimed that Saks fired her from its New Orleans store because of her disability, ulcerative colitis.

EEOC Sues K-Designers for Sex Discrimination and Retaliation Against Female Sales Manager

Judson Enterprises, Inc., doing business as K-Designers, of Rancho Cordova, Calif., violated federal law by subjecting a former female sales manager in its Omaha, Neb., branch to sex discrimination and retaliating against her for complaining about sexual harassment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed yesterday.

Riverstone Residential / Realty Management Settles EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today that it has settled a disability discrimination lawsuit against Phoenix-area property management firms Riverstone Residential, SW, LLC and Realty Management, charging the companies with failing to accommodate and then firing employee Shaun Oldridge because he suffers from bipolar disorder.

A disability services provider will pay $80,000 and furnish other relief to settle an age discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that CHESCO Services, formerly known as Chesterfield County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, unlawfully refused to hire a 73-year-old man for a position because of his age.

P.A.M. Transport Sued by EEOC  for Firing Driver Because of HIV and Conducting Impermissible Medical Inquiries

Arkansas-based P.A.M. Transport, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of P.A.M. Transportation Services, Inc. (PTSI), has been sued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for disability discrimination, the agency announced today. The agency charged the company with unlawfully discharging an employee, who is a Kalamazoo, Mich., resident, after learning he was HIV-positive.

Hobby Lobby To Pay $35,000 For Disability Bias

The EEOC announced today that Chief Judge Michael J. Davis has approved and directed the clerk of court to enter a consent decree resolving an EEOC lawsuit under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) against Hob-Lob, Limited Partnership, which does business as Hobby Lobby. In the lawsuit, the EEOC contended that Hobby Lobby refused to allow an employee with mobility limitations to perform her job while in a wheelchair.

Fashion Bug Sued by EEOC for Age Discrimination

An Atlanta retail chain violated federal law when it fired an employee because of her age, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed today.  According to the EEOC's suit, Civ. Ac. # 409-cv-160, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Charming Shoppes, Inc., doing business as Fashion Bug of Rome, also subjected Angela Ray, a co-manager at the Rome, Ga., store, to discriminatory terms and conditions of employment because of her age, including disparate discipline, prior to her termination.

A Rockville, Md., medical transcription company violated federal law when it refused to hire a medical transcriptionist to a full-time job because of its stereotypes about people with multiple sclerosis, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it announced today.
