KobeWieland Copper to Pay $84,750 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

KobeWieland Copper Products, LLC has agreed to pay $84,750 and provide other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  KobeWieland manufactures and sells copper tubing, and employs over 500 associates between its two plants in Pine Hall, N.C. and Wheeling, Ill.  The EEOC had charged that KobeWieland rescinded an offer of employment to an applicant at its facility in Pine Hall because the hiring official perceived the person as disabled because he was missing fingers on his left hand.

Lilly Ledbetter is Guest Speaker at Fair Pay Seminar

On Wednesday, May 18, 2011, the Jackson Area Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Jackson State University College of Business will co-host a Fair Pay Seminar to discuss the wage gap between men and women. Hill County Farms, doing business as Henry's Turkey Service ("Henry's Turkey") subjected a group of 31 men with intellectual disabilities to severe abuse and discrimination for more than 20 years, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) alleged in a lawsuit filed today in Davenport, Iowa. The company is based in Goldthwaite, Texas, but the work and abuse occurred in West Liberty and Atalissa, Iowa.

EEOC Announces Final Bipartisan Regulations for the ADA Amendments Act

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) final regulations to implement the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) are now available for public view on the Federal Register website at www.ofr.gov.  The regulations will be published Friday.  Like the law they implement, the regulations are designed to simplify the determination of who has a "disability" and make it easier for people to establish that they are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Hussey Copper To Pay $85,000 To Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Lawsuit

A major copper parts manufacturer will pay $85,000 and furnish significant remedial relief to settle a federal disability discrimination lawsuit, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced today. The EEOC had charged that Hussey Copper, Ltd. unlawfully refused to hire a job applicant because of his record of a disability and because they regarded him as disabled.
