Dillard's Sued By EEOC For Age Discrimination

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today announced it has filed an age discrimination lawsuit against department store chain operator Dillard's, Inc. The suit alleges that Dillard's discriminated against Virginia Keene when it discharged her from the position of area sales manager at its store in Cary, N.C., because of her age, 61, in violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA).

Moving and storage company Lawrence Transportation Systems, Inc., violated federal law when it refused to hire a job applicant because of his religion, Rastafarian, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a workplace discrimination lawsuit filed today. Lawrence Transportation, headquartered in Roanoke, Va., has approximately 276 employees.

SKMATCH, Inc., which operates several Subway sandwich shops in and around Wilmington, N.C., violated federal law by subjecting a teenaged female worker and a class of similarly situated female employees to a sexually hostile work environment, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.

Evans Solutions To Pay $47,500 To Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

A Detroit-based operator of a for-profit alternative school will pay $47,500 to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit brought by U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today. The EEOC had charged that Evans Solutions, Inc. unlawfully discharged a school social worker diagnosed with breast cancer because it regarded her as disabled, even though she had a solid work record with the company.

A Central Valley mental health rehabilitation center has agreed to provide $25,000 and other relief to settle a federal lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency announced today.  The EEOC had charged that Delhi, Calif.-based California Psychiatric Transitions, Inc. (CPT) fired a male employee in retaliation for helping his female co-workers to oppose sexual harassment at the center.

$10 Million Consent Decree Ends Racial Harassment Case Against YRC/Roadway Express

Federal Magistrate Judge Susan E. Cox has granted preliminary approval to a $10 million, five-year consent decree which will end the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) race harassment and discrimination lawsuit against Roadway Express and YRC, Inc.  In addition to the multi-million-dollar monetary relief, the decree enjoins future discrimination at the facilities and requires the appointment of a monitor to oversee its implementation.

A Dyersburg, Tenn., company violated federal law by refusing to hire a class of African-Americans for deckhand positions because of their race, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit it filed on September 9, 2010. The EEOC also charged that Choctaw maintained segregated job assignments and failed to properly maintain its medical and personnel records.

Two Texas Energy Corporations Sued By The EEOC For Disability Discrimination

Twenty years after the Americans With Disabilities Act ("ADA") was enacted, the Houston District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed two separate lawsuits to enforce the ADA, demonstrating the on-going relevance of and need for the law in today's workplace. The ADA prohibits discrimination against employees and employment applicants with disabilities, including those who are regarded as disabled by their employers, and those who associate with persons who are disabled.

Finch Air Conditioning Settles EEOC Lawsuit for Sexual Harassment of Young Female Employees

Finch Air Conditioning and Heating, Inc., located in La Porte, Texas, has agreed to pay $80,000 to settle claims of sexual harassment and constructive discharge of female employees brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division.  In the suit (Civil Action No. 4:09-cv-03156), the EEOC alleged that female employees at Finch were routinely subjected to sexual harassment and discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, one of the civil rights/employment discrimination statutes the EEOC is charged with enforcing.
