Office for Civil Rights

The mission of the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) is to promote a strong internal equal opportunity program by administering and enforcing employment rights laws to provide equality of opportunity to EEOC employees and applicants and to prohibit discrimination in all aspects of the agency’s personnel policies, practices and operations.

We carry out this mission by

  • Providing reasonable accommodations to EEOC employees and applicants for employment with EEOC.
  • Investigating employment discrimination complaints filed by EEOC employees, former EEOC employees, and applicants for employment with EEOC.
  • Investigating complaints alleging violations of Sections 504 or 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 filed by EEOC employees, applicants for employment with EEOC, and members of the public.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to EEOC Program Offices.

Who Do we Assist:

OCR assists EEOC Employees and applicants for employment with the EEOC who would like to:

  • Request an Accommodation:  EEOC employees and applicants for employment with the EEOC who would like to request an accommodation.
  • File a Complaint:  EEOC employees, former employees, and applicants for employment with the EEOC who would like to file a complaint that they have been discriminated against by an EEOC employment decision because of race, color, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity, or pregnancy), religion, national origin, age (beginning at age 40), disability, genetic information (including family medical history), pregnancy accommodation, or reprisal.

OCR also assists EEOC employees, applicants, and members of the public with disabilities who would like to file a complaint concerning accessibility of EEOC programs, activities, or information communication technology:

  • Program Accessibility:  EEOC employees, applicants, or members of the public with disabilities who would like to file a complaint, alleging that the EEOC failed to make its programs and activities accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities or otherwise subjected them to discrimination under any program or activity conducted by the EEOC based on disability in violation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
  • Information Communication Technology Accessibility:  EEOC employees, applicants, or members of the public with disabilities who would like to file a complaint, alleging that the EEOC failed to develop, procure, maintain, or use information communication technology in a manner that ensures accessibility and usability for individuals with disabilities in violation of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
